Re: Lovecraft Film Fest Seattle!!
Sun, March 8, 2009 - 3:08 AMFrom the Grand Illusion cinema site...
March 20 - 26
HP LOVECRAFT FESTIVAL
Dir: Various
The Grand Illusion is proud to bring Portland's highly popular celebration of Old Ones and Elder Gods to Seattle! Founded in 1995 by Andrew Migliore, the festival celebrates H.P. Lovecraft, the master of Gothic horror. Starting with the goal of encouraging more adaptations for film and television, the festival has exploded into a multi-media, multi-city event hosting such distinguished guests as singer/poet Patti Smith, artist Mike Mignola, and author Ramsey Campbell. A haven for filmmakers and fans, the festival has created its own following: a unique community of iconoclasts, all speaking the international language of cosmic horror. This presentation is a collection of shorts from the past 13 years of the festival.
7pm - Casting Call of Cthulhu, Late Bloomer, The Book Dealers, Eel Girl, Legend of the Seven Bloody Torturers, The Canal, Maxwell's Mind, Experiment 18, Between the Stars, Call of Cthulhu
9pm - The Outsider, Cool Air, AM 1200
* Director David Prior (AM 1200) will be on hand for a Q&A on Saturday Mar. 21.
Playing: Daily 7pm & 9pm
Additional Shows Sat 7pm and Sun 3pm & 5pm
* Opening Night Gala on Saturday. Doors at 6pm, films at 7pm.

Sun, March 22, 2009 - 12:41 AMWowzers!
Sold out in within 10 minutes of the door opening!
It was several levels of awesome!
Some day I shall find a way to get my crippled ass down south for the other one.
I wonder if the battery on my wheelchair would last that far? -

Sun, March 22, 2009 - 4:20 AMWell, still happening for the next week, so, if you can magically find a way up here, you still have time to watch it all!
Just no guest speakers/directors/writers/etc on the rest of the days.
:)

Sun, March 22, 2009 - 6:46 AMWow. Seven levels of petty pissiness. "Portland has one, so we have to have one! And it has to be bigger." -

Re: Lovecraft Film Fest Seattle!!
Sun, March 22, 2009 - 1:22 PMWhat they're showing is from last year's festival without Mike Mignola and the wedding ceremony from Robert Price. And apparently Seattle's starving for weird horror; cultists and G.O.O's can be charitable. I love the idea of UW being involved, they have the biggest library collection in the PNW :)

Re: Lovecraft Film Fest Seattle!!
Sun, March 22, 2009 - 2:29 PMIt's definitely not bigger!
We have a very small theatre, and a lot of help from the Portland people, to put one up here.
Like one of the speakers said last night "We started in Portland, and now we've done this in places like Salem and Vancouver. We are so glad to be able to reach the folks in Seattle that cannot make it to other locations, because the desire for it here is so great!"
I am not sure where I see pissiness...
So, you are saying that the only people in the world that are allowed to be Lovecraft fans are in Portland.
Oh darn.
I guess I had better run right out and tell everybody. -

So, explain to me how, with the founder of the Portland HPLFF fully backing and supporting Seattle's MINI-version, so that locals can experience the films and comraderie, this is "Seven levels of petty pissiness. "Portland has one, so we have to have one! And it has to be bigger." "
Whatever.
I am going again tonight. -

Re: Lovecraft Film Fest Seattle!!
Mon, March 23, 2009 - 12:01 AMI wish I had seen your post before I left the apartment.
I did not bring my camera.
OIf course, the best pic would be of the tiny poorly angled ramp for my wheelchair to attempt to navigate!
It is painted blue, so that makes it all better. :)
Navigating the deck portion, after the ramp, a bit narrow at times, and I almost fell off a couple times, but it did lead to the side door for wheelchair entry!
Yay!
I will see if any of my friends got photos, and shall definitely post them soon!
